I want to run the openni_change_detector script using an Intel Realsense D415. Is this possible? I'm on a windows computer

The Intel SDK basically says "Use OpenCV" which doesn't use depth information. So, that led me to OpenNI, which is of course gone - long live OpenNI2!

Have a look at the latest RealSenseSDK, they do have an OpenNI2 wrapper/driver now: https://github.com/IntelRealSense/librealsense/tree/master/wrappers/openni2
