Mobile integration questions

Mobile integration is underway within super_editor. Mobile integration requires replicating various platform behaviors and visuals, e.g., caret, drag handles, caret placement, popup toolbar, etc. We could use some help to crowdsource how each of these elements should appear, how they should operate, and what level of control an app developer should have.

If you choose to provide an answer for a given UI element or behavior, please provide a complete and thorough description so that other developers don't have to continue digging deeper.

When documenting platform UI details, a screenshot with a concise description is more valuable than a long explanation. When timing is relevant, e.g., appearance/disappearance/animation, a short video is more valuable than an image or a long explanation.

Here are some UI elements that could use a thorough description:

Android

• Popup toolbar
  • what are the sizing rules?
  • what are the layout rules? For example: when there aren't enough buttons to fill the space, and when there are more buttons than can fit.
  • when using standard platform APIs, what level of control do app developers have over the appearance and buttons in that toolbar?
• Caret placement
  • When the user taps on a word, in between words, etc., what are the rules for where the caret is placed?
  • What are the rules for how the caret moves when the user drags a handle?
• Textfield scrolling
  • What are the timing, distance, and velocity rules for auto-scrolling in a textfield when the user drags past the visible region?
• Are there any special keyboard interactions for style-able text, e.g., special formatting controls that appear above the keyboard?
• Are there any platform APIs associated with rich text editing? For example, does the platform understand the concept of content nodes, or images within text, etc?
