It is theoretically possible to use Bitlocker as FDE (fulls disk encryption) for the external data SSD/HDD but this is currently not recommended since:

  1. The write performance on Linux is very bad (Very slow performance Aorimn/dislocker#138 (comment))
  2. It is not possible to create new Bitlocker encrypted Partitions on Linux (Feature request: encrypt and decrypt drives Aorimn/dislocker#18 and Idea: Support creating new encrypted partitions on Linux using Dislocker Aorimn/dislocker#199)
  3. It is currently not possible to mount more than one Bitlocker encrypted drive (source)

After all three things are fixed/implemented, Bitlocker could become the default for this guide.
(This was already planned in the beginning but Bitlocker has been substituted by Veracrypt because of those issues: c0d7341)
It should also get readded to the not-supported menu. But is of course incompatible to btrfs...

Alternatively, cryptsetup might deliver a better write performance on 22.04 LTS.
