Can you add info regarding the copyright for the projects generated using these archetypes? ( i.e. disclaim any copyright over the generated project and state the copyright is owned by whoever generated them? ) thanks.

Archetypes are generally Apache Licensed and this project itself is declaring its license to be the ASL in the pom.xml so you are okay to use it however.

Thanks. It would great to make it explicit in the docs with something like: "We do not claim any copyright on the contents of the files generated using these archetypes and you will own the copyright on your projects generated using these archetypes."

That would not be the same as the ASL. Read more about the ASL or ask a lawyer. IANAL but you are okay to use it in your organization for commercial purposes without worries.

I have taken a look at several other Maven archetypes. None specified a license (or lack of) in the generated code and I believe it is not common practice to add it. The archetypes themselves are Apache licensed as mosabua said.

You are free to use und license the generated code any way you like. The generated code is just a nice first step to get started but in itself holds no (licensable) value.

I am/was assuming ASL for the archetype not for the generated project. ASL
for the generated project would require attribution.

Thanks.
