Seems now there is a simple way to run bootable linux containers based on bootc via podman.

Not directly via podman; it's confusing. We did create a tool called podman-bootc, but is intended to work with podman.
Also xref containers/bootc#593 which ties together something like this (not actually using podman-bootc) and tmt.
