Emoji autocompletion after typing colon does not work anymore

Steps to reproduce

1. Open a chat
2. Select message typing area
3. Type in a colon (:) and a name of an emoji after it (result: ":sad")

Expected behaviour

Telegram proposes a set of emoji that correspond to that description

Actual behaviour

Telegram does not propose a set of emoji that correspond to that description

Same problem here on Arch Linux, Telegram 4.16.1, package from distribution.

edit: also with Telegram 4.16.5

The problem occurs on Wayland but not on X11.

The popup doesn’t appear when typing the letters, only when hitting backspace:
