Is it easy to find the information you need?

No

Are the instructions clear?

No

How could we improve the Timescale documentation site?

I have Windows 11 with Postgres 16 and 17.

What is <install_dir>, please? Is it the bin folder inside the directory where Postgres is installed?
There is some code offered in Linux, such as sudo -u postgres psql, although for that step I can login via pgAdmin 4.

If you see an error like could not load library "C:/Program Files/PostgreSQL/17/lib/timescaledb-2.17.2.dll": The specified module could not be found., use Dependencies to ensure that your system can find the compatible DLLs for this release of TimescaleDB.
-- I did not have this error, but the file timescaledb-2.17.2.dll does not exist. Dependencies link contains nothing.

If these questions can be replied, it would be better as I am working on a project for which I have to see which columnar extension for Postgres I am going to use.

Hi @LucaGatt22 , thanks for reaching out. <install_dir> is the folder you unzip the installation files to. Hmmm, the install files are now in the timescaledb folder, so we need to update the next step to say <installdir>/timescaledb/setup.exe. @atovpeko can you make this update please, and follow the windows install procedure and see what has happened to the dll please.

Hi @LucaGatt22, timescaledb-2.17.2.dll is downloaded when you go through the second step of the procedure - Install TimescaleDB. It is in the same timescaledb folder as the setup.exe. I think the message about the possible error with that file appeared a little too early in the doc - so I moved it down. Please let us know if you were able to install successfully using the updated procedure in https://github.com/timescale/docs/pull/3665/files. Thank you!

I used https://github.com/timescale/docs/pull/3665/files and the following links go to page not found:

2.1. Unzip the TimescaleDB installer to <install_dir>, that is, your selected directory.

  1. Tune your PostgreSQL instance for TimescaleDB
Run the timescaledb-tune script included in the timescaledb-tools package with TimescaleDB. For more information, see configuration.

Maybe there is a problem with :currentVersion: in path (eg [...]self-hosted/:currentVersion:/install/installation-windows[...]).

I have not tried installing Timescale (step 2) yet, but shall I know in advance how to use Dependencies for this (Timescale) installation, please, or is the error rare to appear?
