Hi, I've noticed RepSnapper doesn't have any logo or icon yet, so I've created a draft. If you like it, feel free to use it, if you keep my attribution.

Generally a nice idea to have an icon, but why the "S"?

hroncok commented Feb 5, 2013

As in repSnapper, as in speed, as in Superman :) And that supposed to be an S and infill at the same time.

As in Slic3r, which is bad ...

So would you preffer R?

I would prefer no letter, something more symbolic for a symbol ;)

Like this?

hurzl commented Feb 5, 2013

Well, it's still an S ...
how about some 3d spiral filament trace or somesuch, that's what I mean by symbolic

@hurzl

hurzl commented Feb 5, 2013

Well it could be interpreted as a trace, too ...
Do you know ad-hoc how to include/install this?
... nevermind, I found out

Where it would be stored? It shoud probably be something sane, such as /usr/share/pixmaps/repsnapper.svg or /usr/share/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/repsnapper.svg, don't forget to uncomment Icon in .desktop file.

Might be a good idea to add it to About dialog too...

I think it looks nice, but the shadow clips on the sides, which is not
so nice.

Thanks,
Bas

In iceweasel it still clips the edges. It looks fine in inkscape,
though. Might just be a bug in iceweasel's renderer.

Thanks,
Bas

Looks good in opera.
Should it rather be installed besides repsnapper.ui than repsnapper.conf?

Yes - an icon is a UI resource, not a config file.

It should go to /usr/local/share/icons/.../scalable/apps and added to repsnapper.desktop.
How do I find that dir at installation?

$(datadir)/icons/hicolor/scalable/apps/ is the path for the Makefile.

I'd suggest to install this small variant to $(datadir)/icons/hicolor/16x16/apps/repsnapper.png

why a png?

As it's more recognizable in this small resolution often used in Apps menus.

Is this really worth it? I can't see that this is better than my small icon from svg

@hroncok

hroncok commented Feb 7, 2013

It is, it even saves a bit of rendering on system and it's not that
big file to not include it.

Usually even the 32x32 variant is different, but that seems not worthy for me.

It makes a mess in the Makefile and the source tree, I would like to see what the other people think.
Rendering is done once for that menu at start I would guess. A png has to be rendered, too.

Hi, it seams my icon is used in menus, but not used in the app itself, it still uses gtk-convert icon.
