Since recently, I'm getting Python errors when trying to run tox:

This is simple tox.inis like

It's weird that /usr/bin/python should be specified anywhere, right?

Any idea what might be going wrong?

(This is on Ubuntu 22.10, Python 3.10.)

Can you show a tree view of the .tox folder after the command failed? Seems your failing to call pip, which sounds to me like you have a bad virtual environment created. Can you do a pip list --version from where the tox python environment too? (did you install tox in a venv or via ubuntu?)

I don't know what _from where the tox python environment_ means. Could you clarify?

I installed tox with

pip install --force tox

The executable is `~/.local/bin/tox`.

I'm 99% sure the issues you're seeing is related to Ubuntu (Debian) patching various libraries (primarily virtualenv here but could be CPython too) in ways that we just don't support. I recommend installing tox in a fresh virtual environment on its own and not alongside your system site packages, and then try again.
