using GoogleMaps API in _Map modular page causes serious loading time increase

First off: nice theme!

I found my page-loading-time increases to unacceptable lengths after I filled in the google maps API key and alt/long fields on the _map modular page in mache.

(Naturally) the problem increases when loading a site on a G3 mobile device. But since google maps is handy when on the go, I'd love to give site visitors easy navigation to some designated location.

I'm about to follow the steps described here firstsiteguide.com/speed-site-properly-including-google-maps/ and work around the loading-time problem that way.
