Parens within shell script cause big problems #1

I wrote a test case to demonstrate:

==================================
Shell function, unescaped parentheses
==================================
X := $(shell node -e "console.log()")

---

(makefile
  (variable_assignment
    name: (word)
    value: (text
      (shell_function
        (shell_command)))))

Which fails with:

  4. Shell function, unescaped parentheses:

    (makefile
      (ERROR
        (word)
        (ERROR)))
      (variable_assignment
        name: (word)
        value: (text
          (shell_function
            (shell_command)))))

I took a brief look into trying to fix it but I have no idea what I'm doing
