It looks like the downloaded file is not the original file. My 1.7MB HEIC file is downloaded as a smaller JPEG file (with an .heic suffix).

Not sure there is much I can do in this regard. Apparently this may be how the API is designed at the moment. See the Google bug tracker and some related projects bumping into the same issue.
