Messaging Insights needs for Paste version of "Chart tooltips"

Context: Messaging Insights Console Zen migration has been long overdue since it was originally built 4-5 years ago. Without transitioning to Console Zen, Messaging Insights faces constraints in enhancing customer experiences based on its current framework. This limitation is a substantial impediment to the development of new products such as the Customer Deliverability Engine (CDE), which integrates the latest AI assistant using the AI UI kit.

In Q2, 2024, we received support from the MessagingUI team to advance this migration and enable new feature development. During this process, we identified several legacy UI components within Messaging Insights that require updates to the most recent version of Paste. However, some UI components do not have corresponding functionality in Paste, necessitating additional support from Paste to fully integrate these components into the library.

Request for Paste: The most significant component that we need to define in Paste is the “Chart Tooltip”. In Messaging Insights, we have a wide use of tooltips used in data charts with buttons for direct filtering from the tooltip. This feature allows customers to drill down into data segments dynamically and view immediate results in the chart, which they use daily. Currently, Paste lacks an official component for Chart Tooltips, and this has been identified as a blocker for the development.
Without the official chart tooltip components from Paste, we can't finalized the console Zen migraiton.

We have clear use cases for the following features for the chart tooltip that 10K customers are using monthly.

• Chart tooltip with buttons
• Chart tooltip with legends + data
• Chart tooltip with highlighted numbers
• Chart tooltip with light background (Paste currently only offers a UI tooltip with dark background)

For tooltips used in charts, the light bg is preferred for readability of data and additional information
Chart tooltip with recommendations or AI-generated Insights callout

Although the current Popover component in Paste has similar functionality, It is fundamentally different as it is designed to activate on click rather than on hover, which is essential for the chart interaction.

I can bring the UX/UI proposal to Paste design office hours to see if these chart tooltips can be officially integrated into Paste.
