Empty State Illustrations for Segment #4179
-
Hey Paste team! I know illustrations aren't owned by Paste, but I'm wondering if anyone knows who I can chat with on the Brand team to find out the status on Segment-specific (or maybe Twilio empty states with Segment colors?) illustrations. I think this was in progress a while ago, but haven't heard anything recently. Last time I chatted with @serifluous, I think we were going to look into tweaking existing illustrations to use in Segment. In lieu of illustrations, designers have been using icons. We're trying to figure out how to make this more consistent overall. Also - does the team have a stance on using empty states within tables? This is how we've been handling them: Wondering if it's necessary to put the empty state within the context of the table, or if we can remove the table. Thanks! |

Disclaimer: This is a very experimental bot using OpenAI's GPT-4. The answers may not be correct, a human will review the answer and update it if necessary. Hi there! For Segment-specific illustrations or Twilio empty states with Segment colors, you should reach out to the Brand team. The Brand team has worked hard on the illustrations as part of the brand refresh, and they are expecting all Twilio products, including Segment, to use them. If your use case isn't covered by the current collection, the Segment PD team should contact the Brand team to request new illustrations. The current collection is vast and should be explored first. You might need a Segment PD representative to access the brand asset collection until the Figma library is released. More details on this process can be found in the Illustrations section of the Paste documentation. Regarding the use of empty states within tables, the Paste documentation doesn't explicitly provide guidelines for this specific scenario. However, based on the general guidance for empty states, it's important to communicate clearly when no data is available, which can enhance the user experience by providing guidance or reassurance. The examples you've shown, such as using icons or illustrations with text, align with the principles of effectively using empty states to inform users. The decision to place the empty state within the context of the table or remove the table might depend on the specific user experience and design consistency across your application. Since this isn't explicitly covered in the documentation I have, I recommend reaching out to the Paste or UX team for more tailored advice. I hope this helps! Let me know if there's anything else I can do for you. I also did a search, and I managed to find these other Discussions that might be similar or related to your question. Give them a read to see if they answer your question. If they do, head back here and update this discussion and mark it as answered, pointing others to the related discussion:

Hey @ceyerkes ! Last time Kendal and I chatted with Brand, they were in the process of hiring a new Head of Creative, and said not to expect brand style changes until the new year. We've got a meeting with the VP of Brand to chat about illustrations (and other things) in January. btw did you or someone else on Segment already submit a brand workflow request for illustrations so it's on their radar? re: icons, we've got a ticket in our backlog to update our Empty State guidelines with when to use icons: https://twilio-productivity.atlassian.net/browse/DS-410 I've been seeing this pop up more in Twilio Console, too, so let me know if y'all align on anything! re: table, I'd recommend defaulting to not showing the table, unless there's a pretty specific reason the context given by the column headings is important. |
