I don't see any C api to fetch whether the reporting is active or not

There is not, it’s a systemd timer unit for it. I think it’s easier to check for systemd directly? Or do you mean, an API to check that that the user allowded reporting?

The latter: i.e. to pre-fill the gnome initial setup value, in case it gets started again or, more importantly, to provide a g-c-c toggle for this.

I trade a GDM MFA support against me implementing this feature :p

ahaha, ok... For sure you gain on this, but I'd like to do the MFA stuff, I had the basic ready but I would need to do the bigger job to pass the browser data to the shell.

But need to ask some time for that :)
