<p>Amr El Abbadi is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science. Professor
El Abbadi joined the Department in 1987. His Ph.D. is from Cornell University. His research
interests include: Fault-tolerant distributed systems; Distributed Databases,
Operating Systems, Cloud, and Social Networks.
He is also the faculty advisor for the class of 2019.

<p> Tevfik Bultan is a Professor and Chair of the Department of Computer Science. Professor
Bultan joined the Department in 1998. His Ph.D. is from University of Maryland,
College Park. His research interests include: dependability and security of web
software, automated verification, program analysis, and software engineering.
Professor Bultan's research group develops automated verification and analysis techniques that help developers in identifying and eliminating errors in software.

security, and machine learning. He is interested in designing and building flexible, scalable, and deployable systems that solve real-world problems.</p>

<p>Ben Hardekopf is an Associate Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara, where he leads the Programming Languages Research Laboratory.
Professor Hardekopf's main research area is Programming Languages, investigating programming language design, analysis, and implementation.

<p>
Chandra Krintz is a Professor of Computer Science at the University of California, Santa Barbara (UCSB) and co-founder and Chief Scientist of AppScale Systems, Inc. She joined the UCSB faculty in 2001 after receiving her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Computer Science from the University of California, San Diego (UCSD).
Professor Krintz's research is at the intersection of IoT, cloud computing, and data analytics with applications in farming, ranching, and ecology (cf SmartFarm and WTB).

<p> Diba Mirza is an Assistant Teaching Professor in the Department of Computer Science. She received her Ph.D. in Computer Engineering from the University of California, San Diego and joined the Computer Science department at UCSB in 2017.
She is the faculty advisor for the class of 2021 and co-directs programs in undergraduate tutoring and research.

<p> Tim Sherwood is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science.
Professor Sherwood joined the CS Department in 2003. He is the Associate Vice Chancellor for Research and the co-founder of Tortuga Logic.
Professor Sherwood works on all manner of computer science and engineering problems from the perspective of how to better "shape" computers to address our needs (e.g. to be more secure or amenable to machine learning).

Wang joined the Department in 1987. His PhD is from the University of Texas at Austin. His
research interests include 3D computer vision, especially in developing robust, efficient and easy-to-use CV algorithms and systems, with a research objective to benefit the society at large.</p>

<br>
Rich Wolski is a Professor in the Department of Computer Science and
co-founder of Eucalyptus Systems Inc. Professor Wolski joined the department in 2001.
His Ph.D. degree is from the University of California at Davis. Professor Wolski has led
several national scale research efforts in the area of distributed systems and
is the progenitor of the Eucalyptus open source cloud project.
His research explore ways in which the ubiquitous proliferation of high-performance network connectivity can be used to foster new distributed computing capabilities and systems.

<p> Lingqi Yan (pronounced as Ling--Chi--Yen) is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer
Science. Professor Yan joined the Department in 2018. He received his PhD in EECS from UC Berkeley. His research is in Computer Graphics. He has worked on rendering photo-realistic visual appearance at real world complexity, building theoretical foundations mathematically and physically to reveal the principles of the visual world. His original contributions to Computer Graphics include detailed rendering from microstructure, and real-time ray tracing with reconstruction. He also exploits Machine Learning approaches for physically based rendering. He has interned at Walt Disney Animation Studios (2014), Autodesk (2015), Weta Digital (2016) and NVIDIA Research (2017). </p>

Professor Wang works on computer science pedagogy topics including interdisciplinary approaches to teach applications of computer science to students with various backgrounds. Professor Gupta's research interests are in computer systems, security, and privacy. He enjoys taking theoretical constructs from the literature (e.g., cryptography) and carefully applying them to add strong security and privacy properties to computer systems.

<p> Yu-Xiang Wang is an Assistant Professor of Computer Science at UCSB. Prior to joining UCSB, he was a scientist with Amazon Web Services’s AI research lab in Palo Alto, CA from 2017 to 2018. Yu-Xiang received his PhD in Statistics and Machine Learning in 2017 from the world’s first Machine Learning Department in the School of Computer Science of Carnegie Mellon University (CMU).
Yu-Xiang’s research interests revolve around the intersection of machine learning, statistics and optimization with special focus on statistical theory and methodology, differential privacy, large-scale machine learning, reinforcement learning and deep learning.</p>
