Spec Updates Objective:

To make site more patron friendly and searchable.
Important to note not all patrons have the same ability or familiarity when searching through archives.
Spec is working on minimizing the amount of routes patrons have to take in order to fully search the collections housed.

Discussed Updates:

  • Add updated Spec staff/faculty pictures to site (main & spec site?)

in shared > Photos >Photos Library Staff & Faculty > 2022

  • Remove the "Accessions List"

Accessions are unprocessed collection and as a rule Spec doesn't normally allow patrons to access them.

  • Add landscape image to Spec's homepage (like the one that is featured on the "Description of Collections page").
  • Reformat "Description of Collections" page

Switch order so "Collection Types" show before "Collection Strengths".

  • Reformat/Update FAQ page
  • Add a Glossary Page

Having terms defined that patrons will come across, but not fully understand might help shed some light on how to use our collections. Might be an avenue to create a LibGuide for Special Collections.

  • Reformat/update "Policies" page

Upload a viewable PDF of the department's updated policies. The current page contains a lot of information that might be overwhelming at first sighting.

  • Reformat/updated "Donations" page

Rewrite so donation procedures are up to date. Upload donation forms for patrons to easily view, download, and fill out.

  • Update "Book Collections List"

Add search bar above outdated table that searches the main library catalog specifically for materials in Spec. Since items are automatically shown as available when added to Alma, the current table is outdated. Adding the multitude of new books/materials to the table may not be worth the effort when Primo has them viewable automatically after cataloging.

  • Change location of Data Tables

Evan suggested data tables could live in different location on the library's website. (Can't remember where specifically he suggested)
