Contributing code?

For public repos, should we include a contributing.md template file in this repository?

My instinct is to be as minimal as possible with required GitHub repo meta files and point to the links below or similar with all the possibilities that one can have. Here are a few lists of meta files that have meaning in a larger context.

I'm not sure that contributing.md in particular is more useful than some of the others. The lists of course don't include the FAIR related files that we're more concerned about.
