How can I disable default selection?

I have two option menu. In the first option menu, an option is selected by default which is ok. Since an option is already selected in the first option menu I want nothing to be selected by default in the second option menu. I have changed the background color of nav-link-selected in the second option menu to my app's background color to make it look like nothing is selected, however, the default option's text still appears bold.
