How to open Adios2 bp5 format in VisIt

Hi,

I have a file (folder) in bp5 format but I'm not sure how to open it in VisIt (v3.4.1).

I found a discussion (#19144) mentioning to create a .visit file that points to the folder, but I don't quite understand what is the format for .visit file.

ParaView 5.12.0 recognizes the .bp folder and allowing us to choose ADIOS2 VTK Reader. Does VisIt have similar interface?

If not I can take a look at your file and see if I can open it. We are hoping to upgrade our OpenPMD support in the next release which may make this easier.

You mean the unstructured grid with ADIOS2 local variables?

We don't use the VTK ADIOS2 reader. If we did, like Paraview does, you would probably be able to open your file with VisIt. We can look at adding this feature if you'd like.

The links that @yslan sent show that there is a VTK ADIOS2 reader that is used in Paraview for reading unstructured mesh data.

You are providing unstructured mesh data. Our base ADIOS2 reader in VisIt doesn't support that capability. There are other flavors of ADIOS2 that we support that we can read unstructured mesh data from, like GTC and SpecFEM. But with our default ADIOS2 reader, we only support rectilinear grids.

We could investigate upgrading our ADIOS2 reader to use the VTK::IOADIOS2 functionality and bring us up to par with Paraview. We would need to assess how much of a need for this there is and how much effort would be involved.

I guess what we're looking for is a reader similar to one in Paraview.
