Honestly, I am not even sure what "S3D" format is. ChatGPT didn't seem to know either. The plugin itself is smallsh...815 lines.
Why get rid of it...its the only plugin using netCDF's CPlusPlus interface. It is the only reason we build netCDF with CPlusPlus. I suspect its a one-off format developed by earlier VisIt developers at ORNL. We have no test data for it.
