Hello,

I'm would like to deploy a RHEL9 image.

I've updated the files like this:

Other files are the same.

So I've setup an available IP address in my network to only use it for this packer image. Unfortunately, the image creation is stuck with the message:

failed to fetch kickstart from http://10.217.***.***:8030/ks.cfg

When I check the ip a command on the VM, it appears that no IP have been setup.

When I curl the http://10.217.***.***:8030/ks.cfg I receive the ks.cfg file, so the webserver works fine.

If you have any idea on how to troubleshoot deeper, let me know.

This should be the full "dvd" iso.

I tried using the dvd version of the iso.

Unfortunately, I still have the same issue:

It seems like it still can't get the IP I've setup in the configuration files...

I just tested with Disk and i was able to get the static set, i am having testing http now

Did you tried with the config files I've put in the first message ?

To be honest, I don't understand why it doesn't work. I start packer from a VM in the same network, without any firewall anywhere. When I try to ping the VM that packer create, the only output is:

so i did some more testing, i had the same issue for some reason it was not working, i tweak my network and tried a different network and it started working, i will still dig to see if i can figure out why it is not working each time

vmxnet3 is not right, this is the local nic on the os which is ens192. check this file: variables-network.pkr.hcl and validate this is set:

This new code seems to work, but I still encounter something strange:

During the VM initialization, it get the ip address well:

But couldn't connect to the web server: no route to host

What is weird is that the rhel vm and the vm from which I start packer are on the same network:

Packer VM

I've changed from http to disk.

I don't know much about the usage of disk instead of http to be honest, I've always done http until now.

It seems like the Packer process is now stuck on "Waiting for SSH to become available..."

Do you know from where it could come from ?

That's what I found weird. There is no firewall anywhere and networking is working well.

I clearly don't understand what's going on
