RFC #1: Remove local events from the site #84
Comments
I think the list of the meetups is super useful: But I don't see a lot of value of highlighting the upcoming local events. I've always thought it would be better to tap into Meetup's API to dynamically show upcoming local events from all the meetups. But Meetup's API is kinda weak, so it would be too much work for too little benefit. |
Hi Ben! I can see the benefit of having the high volume traffic viewers on our site see conferences and/or local meetups that have an option for attending globally, given that just a long list of local meetups is of little benefit to majority of the events site traffic. But I also very much think we should still keep a list of all the available meetups around the world somewhere on the events site simply because it answers the question that almost every Vue user interested in the community asks: "Where can I find a Vue meetup?" or "Is there a Vue meetup in my city/country?" |
I also second to have the list of meetups available on the site. Since most organizers are planning to move away from meetup.com, it would be nice to have as an official place to check for meetups available in the area. It would be great to highlight meetups which allow remote participation. |
Proposal
Vue.js Events will no longer track local events (that do not have an option for people to attend via streaming).
Rationale
Most of the traffic for Vue.js Events has been most successful at helping to surface what meetups are available in areas. Beyond that, users are often relying on their local resources rather than a cumulative list of events around the world.
Future Ideas
It would be nice to eventually get statistics around the number of Vue.js events around the world, but this should be a separate task to tackle since the value proposition behind the amount of work to get this done is probably more than is valuable.
