Feedback from @ianbjacobs:

  • Get rid of them
    BUT
  • if you keep the tag thing you can sort them by tag and see them in that view: the value of tag is "off" by default

Tags can be distracting, but having a sense of how you can use them to sort is nice. I would prefer them smaller / less prominent, working somewhat like github labels - but with a proper description of what each tag means somewhere. Colour coding them would be nice too, so long as they keep the text to distinguish them and it contrasts with the background.

For example, I should be able to sort by two tags - either one OR the other, or both together. The results should then show the tag, and its simple explanation, at the top of the page. (with "and" or "or" clarifying what I am getting:

Searching for specs with tag 'funny' and tag 'well-reviewed'. [add tags...]`
Funny: Things chaals thought were humourous
Well Reviewed: Specs that have received many formal objections

or something like that.

@chaals:

“I would prefer them […] working somewhat like github labels.”

They work more or less like GH labels, don't they?

“But with a proper description of what each tag means somewhere.”

We're documenting descriptions for ourselves here: tags.md. On /TR, the little question mark icon (“help about search criteria”) takes you to help.html (and we should document the meaning of tags there, too).

“Colour coding them would be nice too, so long as they keep the text to distinguish them and it contrasts with the background.”

That's the case now, right?
