History behind the MSBuild version locking?

I'm having a few quick runs at the dependency version updates (for .NET 8.0, to at least present what the changes would be), and one of the items it bumps against is the current version locks for the MSBuild tasks.

Is there a nice link or such to reference what some of those issues may have been which resulted in locking the MSBuild reference versions?
Potentially in moving dependencies forward it might resolve some of the issues that caused the lock.
