Homebrew is the easiest and most flexible way to install the UNIX tools Apple didn’t include with OS X.
The installation instructions will get you started.
After that, learn more with brew help
, man brew
or the FAQ.
- Homebrew doesn’t install gems, etc., if you want them, you should read this: Gems, Eggs and Perl Modules
- Homebrew doesn’t install many “dupes”. But you can find all dupes in adamv/homebrew-alt. Soon we’ll add tools to make it easier to get at formula in other repositories.
Your issue may be known or have a common solution. Please check here before filing a report. Otherwise, please report bugs to our tracker. Filing amazingly useful bug reports is a skill we should all have, so why not read Alan McRae’s: “How To File A Bug Report”.
To contribute formula: fork
, clone
, create
, audit
, commit
, push
and then create a pull request (from a new branch, not master). Please read the Formula Cookbook before your first contribution or you’ll make Mike McQuaid cry (though he is a big girly pants).
Either fork, add features, commit, push and open a ticket or create a new external command.
