Backend and frontend (RN) workspaces in a single project

Hello, I am migrating a monorepo which contains a number of backend (node.js), front-end (CRA and Expo) and shared libraries.

So far I was able to switch everything except Expo to PNP. I thought that for Expo I could add:

nodeLinker: node-modules

Only for Expo, and keep the rest as PNP. However, this seems not to be the case.

1. If I add that line to Expo workspace .yarnrc.yml, then node_modules is also created at the top level (?)
2. However, when I do yarn install in a different workspace where nodeLinker: pnp it will delete it.

• Is it not possible to have different nodeLinker for different workspaces?
• What are the best practices here? I would like to keep using PNP for backend etc. but still be able to run Expo.

Any help would be appreciated here.

Additional question:

• If we decide to do nodeLinker: node-modules for the whole project, will that solve type-hell problem or no? Will TypeScript compiler only see type definitions that are explicit for that particular project?
