regarding the new tab it should be in the settings (i can't find it either), but you can set it via flag: 'zen.urlbar.replace-newtab' to false in about:config to revert |

I did find the tab setting in the release notes, so at least I was able to change that back to normal. The bizarre preview functionality is still an issue though. Any unusual changes like these should be options that can be enabled/disabled easily, with the default being disabled. Having to hunt down a way to revert them is frustrating. |

as said below by anoms12 this is still beta software, and it is developed by one guy alone. don't expect to be stable-release-level when it's not |

Reverted back to 1.7.4b for the time being. The new icons look like they are lifted from Vivaldi and they are smaller and less sharp. Viewing at 3840 x 2160 here. I too disabled the new tabs feature at first boot, gives the option, otherwise about:config. I noticed the preview function was only for the Windows taskbar (showing the active tab window vs all the tab windows) but the preview of the Zen tabs used to show a miniture page of the content and now it's text only. Really feels like a demotion. Forgot to mention the new icons also now contain the same icon for 3 different features? That would be the icon to expand the side bar, the web panel, and the side bookmarks panel... |

I agree but this is a beta software so changes (some drastic) are destine to happen. He is working on a new settings page |

The fact it's beta doesn't really change things, developing dubious features isn't the best use of time. In general I like Zen - it's based on FF and seems fast - both of which are positive attributes. There have been several updates though that include questionable changes, ones that makes you wonder what the goal for this project actually is. Just because you can change something, doesn't mean you should. |

The dev said he did it to speed up productivity and apparently Arc browser did a bunch of research on it, it's apparently the best option 🤷 Idk I like it. |

the fact that it's beta means that it's constantly undergoing changes. i get your point but it's not meant to be any browser, but rather it has a certain approach while allowing to customize the majority of it. it's not an enterprise project, it's a guy's one, and this means that this is not focused on being universal but rather custom |

that's not true: what i'm saying is not that there isn't room for improvement, but rather that the choices that seem arbitrary, well, are, because in the end there's the dev that tries to follow his project (also trying to understand the directions to take) while trying to make users happy. given enough feedback things can change, but he chooses what changes and how, often following the community but always dependant on what he thinks |

What the heck?
Did anyone actually ask for those? They both seem like solutions in search of a problem, things that were changed just for the sake of it.
How do I get tab previews back to normal? There's nothing in settings/tab management that would do it. When I search about:config for "preview" the only thing I can find is "show tab previews in Windows taskbar", but that results in something awkward and not intuitive.
