Website change review checklist:

Looking good so far, here's some notes as I look at it.

  • Overall, it would be nice to have a lot more imagery, even just stand-ins for now. The top of the page include some kind of full-width image of the office setting (somehow in addition to the logo), the sections can have room for some relevant image, etc.
  • The links on the landing page should be wider, maybe 2 (or even 1) per row. And I wonder if somehow letting each one have a prominent image (maybe as a faded background?) could fit well...
  • Naming wise, I'd go with "recruiting" over "recruitment"
  • Once in a subpage, it might be nice if there were a clear button to go back to the main landing page. I realize that's redundant with the literal back button, but it still could be nice.
  • I wonder if the "Apply" section should have any custom design around how jobs listed show up (e.g. how they're clicked on), or if it will look find as a list of links.
  • On the landing page, we should include a little Netlify form at the bottom for any company interested in reaching out to inquire about joining.
  • What are your thoughts on replacing the small explanation on top with the phrase "What is this?" which would expand to a fuller paragraph? The idea would be to leave room for the landing page to be dominated most by the imagery of the relevant companies.

Totally forgot about the full width images. I'll try to put in some more floating images as well.

You mean sorta like this? I'll get the logos compatible with a dark bg, then put a dark-faded workspace image behind?

I wasn't sure if these companies were going to want to list individual jobs, or just a generic "apply" link. I feel like this depends on how detailed they want to get and how much info they want to show? Maybe you could ask to get a feel for the level of detail they would want?

Tbh the accordion component might look a little tacky for this purpose; it was more meant for lessons. What about just a single phrase above, and separate "What is this?" section below with a more detailed information. Let's see how that looks; we can always easily copy+paste it into accordion component later.

Yeah, that faded background example looks perfect.

I agree on the accordion being awkward there, so at lest for now let’s leave it as simple text.

Regarding the form, what fields do you want? Maybe name, email, company, free-text?

Also how would you feel about just having the form with all the other forms on the contact page, and just linking to it from /recruiting like:

Are you a company that wants to recruit through 3blue1brown? Click here.

Also I realize this is outside of my purview, but just my two cents: You may want to keep the "apply" section more high level and vague. I'm imaging specific positions/jobs will come and go, and you and the companies wont want to have to continually update 3b1b.com. Might be better to have the actual company website be the one source of truth, and just list high level commonalities like the types of jobs they have and the types of interests/skills an applicant should have.

Awesome, thanks! I think putting the form on the usual contact page works perfectly.

Also, I generally agree with letting the companies page be the main source of truth. It may depend slightly on how we want to handle tracking candidates.

This is awesome! Seems close to the level at which can show to a company or two and it will evoke some good feedback from them.

A few thoughts I had going through:

  1. I went back and forth as to whether the full-width image and logo part take up too much vertical space. I think I ended up concluding that scrolling down is easy enough.
  2. I wonder what the best way for someone to understand a company they have never heard of. "The collaborative interface design tool" isn't enough for the unacquainted. We could just rely on them to click into the website. Or it could be a part of Grant's message. Or we could add more of a company description / what the heck does Figma do part.
  3. I feel like what I would do if I land on this is open the website in a new tab. And then go back and forth between reading Grant's message and clicking around on the website. I could then see me being likely to just navigate to the careers page as opposed to click the "Apply now!" button at the bottom. Something to keep in mind as we think through tracking.
  4. Something felt weird to me about having the three somewhat generic stock images of Figma in the message from Grant section. I guess it depends on how directly they tie into what Grant's message is.
  5. That message from Grant piece feels really important. I wonder how text vs. audio snippet vs. video would perform.

We could reduce the height of the top section too, though I'd say the size is manageable and fairly typical.

The wording of the description text will have to be manicured a lot by you guys. I just put Figma's slogan "The collaborative interface design tool" as a place holder. But regardless, you'll want to convey what the company is in just a sentence or two. If you're going to have ~8 companies, I wouldn't recommend trying to fit a paragraph of description for each on the landing page.

The standard FeatureCard component seems to work/look fine with a longer description:

Probably still a good idea to have a specific call-to-action button at the bottom, though if we keep it a high-level link (to a careers page vs specific job positing), perhaps we rename the button it to "Careers at Figma" or something.

I'd say if you're able to get images that specifically illustrate things Grant is talking about, include them there. Otherwise, if generic, you can move them to below the apply section.

I think it'd certainly be nice, but might be overkill. A lot of this companies wont even have career videos themselves (at least Figma doesn't). But if Grant has time to produce some videos (like his more recent Q/A style ones), I'd say go for it.

Added form to contact page, and basic link to contact section from recruiting page. Note that I'm assuming you have to do some configuration on the Netlify side to set up the form and redirect how you want. The new id/name is contact-recruiting, similar to the existing contact-licensing, contact-general, etc.
