The proposal

The idea is to build up both an extended version of ENEX as a superset or parallel document (which to be be determined).

The main goal is to refine ideas by working with an improved format in as big and diverse a group as we can recruit, providing tools and support. Hopefully, we will achieve something which will be adopted by Evernote themselves.

Even if that is not achieved, the tools and extended format should be sufficiently useful in their own right to provide value to people who want to export and re-import data.

To provide broad appeal, a mixture of native code examples and scripting will be built up. In the long term, anyone using any of the Evernote SDKs should be able to work with these extended formats.

As well as developers using the Evernote SDK, the scripting tools here should be usable by reasonably savvy computer users who use the Evernote desktop clients, to be able to take notes and do additional work on them then re-import with updates.
