what's the status here? same problem occurs for other symbols like colon, comma etc

The current version of react-native-simple-markdown is using an outdated version of simple-markdown. Unfortunately the maintainer of this repository is not very active. I ended up forking it and fixing the dependency myself: https://github.com/schumannd/react-native-simple-markdown

Check out my branch named forakble. There are some issues with the package.json which makes this repository not easily forkable, which I circumvented.

for quick copy/paste install:
npm install --save https://github.com/schumannd/react-native-simple-markdown.git#forkable
