Semester Reading Assignments

Submission Instructions

Prior to every class period, you need to complete the reading assigned in the Syllabus (entries marked as "READ"). After completing the reading, you must submit a very short submission about the reading. The submission is one paragraph (or alternatively, a few bullets) about your discoveries, questions, and comments. DO NOT WRITE SUMMARIES. Rather, these entries should be insights or concerns from the reading that could potentially be discussed in class.

Here is an example entry in bullet form:

  • Blew my mind when I really thought about how our world-wide Internet infrastructure is built on technologies that are 40-years old!

  • Why hasn't there been a stronger shift toward a more secure network stack? Even a shift to IPv6, which has IP-Sec built in would be a good start.

  • I don't understand the difference between NACK and ACK?

Your entries must be submitted using your git repository. You need to have a top-level directory called "readings". Each entry must be a text file in the readings directory entitled YYYY_MM_DD.txt for the given due-date. For example, if you had an entry for the readings due in class on September 10th, you would name the file 2018_09_10.txt within the readings directory.

We may look at your submissions in class to initiate some class-room discussions but we will not identify the author of individual questions in case you'd prefer to keep that to yourself.

NOTE: Some entries are listed as "SKIM". You are encouraged to glance through these documents for your own understanding, but you will not be tested on their content. Your questions and comments can be from these readings however.
