The aim of this tool is to print instantaneous bitrate of the packets. The tool supports filters in libcap utils.
The sample input
<program_name> <tracefile/interface> <filter options>
Example
This program is installed as instantaneous_bitrate on the XPS (194.47.151.109)
Sample input
instantaneous_bitrate trace-872-1.cap
Sample output
<packet number> <Start time (relative)> <IAT (s)> <Packet_size (Bytes)> <Instantaneous Bitrate (bps)>
1 0.000000000000 0.082802295500 138 13332.000000000000
2 0.082802295500 7.184316337250 70 77.000000000000
3 7.267118632750 0.191370546750 78 3260.000000000000

# This program can also be used as a debgging tool to print bitrates above threshold bitrate , and we can aslo control the number of samples to print
In the example below, we would like to print 10 samples above 100 Mbps in the test trace.
Sample Input
xvk@xrk-desktop:~/Instantaneous_bitrate$ instantaneous_bitrate trace-872-1.cap -m 10 -r 100e6
m flag controls the number of packets to print
r flag controls the threshold bitrate ( 100 Mbps in this case)
