Launch mstsc as the .RDP file editor before launching msrdc - you still need to click "Save" before clicking "Connect", after which mstsc closes, and msrdc is launched with Default.rdp. The edited .RDP file is only saved by mstsc after a successful launch and I could not yet find a way to force it to save when intercepting the "Connect" button message.
