File Analyzer Use Cases at State Library of South Carolina

Thanks to Jessica Dame, Metadata Librarian, South Carolina State Library for sharing this story.

Currently at the South Carolina State Library we are using the File Analyzer to help streamline our workflow when batch loading collections into the South Carolina State Documents Depository. Prior to using the File Analyzer, all items were manually entered into DSpace by our Cataloger and maintained by our Innovative and Digital Librarian. With Scanning Technicians out numbering our Cataloger, the backlog was growing and continues to grow fast.

With the recent addition of a Metadata Librarian on staff, the File Analyzer has been implemented in our workflow to batch load collections with multiple items and repetitive metadata. This lifts the burden off our Cataloger from having to manually enter everything. Our Metadata Librarian batch loads collections, and our Cataloger individually enhances at the item level as needed. As we do not host DSpace, the File Analyzer assists us in preparing folders to send to our host and support team at Longsight for loading.
