Body Temperature

Body Temperature is one of the core mechanics of Tough As Nails. Temperature works on a 5-tier scale, consisting of the following levels:

  • Icy
  • Cold
  • Neutral
  • Warm
  • Hot

Your body temperature will slowly change to match the environmental temperature, which can be affected by many different sources, including the following:

  • Biome Temperature
  • Time of Day (Colder at night in non-neutral biomes)
  • Weather
  • Altitude (Cold above 160, warm below -32 in Overworld-like dimensions)
  • Immersion (Wet, On Fire, In Powder Snow, etc.)
  • Blocks (Proximity of 8 blocks)
  • Thermoregulator
  • Armor (When wearing at least 2 pieces of Heating/Cooling Armor)
  • Held Items (Main or Off-Hand)
  • Consumed Items (Internal Chill / Internal Warmth)
  • Season (If Serene Seasons is installed)

Environmental modifiers like biome temperature, seasons, and weather are only applied above a specific altitude (50 by default). A Thermometer can be used to immediately check the current environmental temperature. When your body temperature is in the Icy/Hot range, you will be at risk of Hypo/Hyperthermia respectively, which will slowly damage you over time.

Temperature sources such as blocks, armor, held items, and consumed items will show a tooltip for whether they provide cooling or heating. Additionally, Potions of Fire Resistance and Ice Resistance, the temporary Climate Clemency effect, and the Thermal Tuning enchantment can protect you from the negative effects of extreme temperatures.

Additionally, you can use the temperature debugging visualizer by pressing F3 + 7 to see the range that cooling/heating blocks can be detected, as well as a visualization of the Thermoregulator's temperature spread.

(NOTE: You can change the max proximity of heating/cooling blocks in the configuration settings!)

(NOTE: You can change the Y levels for the altitude temperature modifier in the configuration settings!)

(NOTE: You can also completely disable the Body Temperature feature in the configuration settings!)
