Summary of Changes

Hello @renovate-bot, I'm Gemini Code Assist1! I'm currently reviewing this pull request and will post my feedback shortly. In the meantime, here's a summary to help you and other reviewers quickly get up to speed!

This pull request aims to upgrade the isort dependency to its latest major version, 7.0.0, across all specified Python environments. This update ensures the project benefits from the most recent features, bug fixes, and performance enhancements provided by isort, while also aligning with its updated Python version support, which notably drops support for Python 3.9.

Highlights

  • Dependency Update: The isort dependency has been updated to version 7.0.0 across all Python environments. Previously, isort was at 6.0.0 for Python versions > 3.9 and 5.13.2 for Python versions <= 3.8.
  • Breaking Change in isort v7.0.0: The new isort version 7.0.0 introduces a breaking change by dropping official support for Python 3.9. This means environments relying on Python 3.9 might experience issues or require a Python version upgrade.
  • New Features and Fixes: Version 7.0.0 of isort includes new features such as showing absolute paths in skipped file messages, and several fixes including compatibility for Python 3.14 and improvements to hanging indent output for long lines with noqa.

Code Review

This pull request updates isort to version 7.0.0. However, this new version has stricter Python version requirements (>=3.10) which are not correctly handled in the updated requirements.txt. The current changes will cause dependency installation to fail on Python versions 3.8 and older. I've provided a suggestion to fix this critical issue.

isort==6.0.0; python_version > "3.9"
isort==5.13.2; python_version <= "3.8"
isort==7.0.0; python_version > "3.9"
isort==7.0.0; python_version <= "3.8"

critical

isort version 7.0.0 requires Python 3.10 or newer. Specifying it for Python versions <= "3.8" will cause installation to fail on those environments. You should keep using isort v5 for older Python versions.

As a side note, neither the old nor the new configuration specifies an isort version for Python 3.9. You may want to add a line for it, for example: isort==6.0.0; python_version == "3.9".

isort==5.13.2; python_version <= "3.8"
