How to install Grit on a tablet
To install Grit on a Nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.4.x (Kitkat):
###Set up a Grit Google account on the tablet All tablets in a set (i.e. at the same school) use the same Google account, so they can share the same paid apps from the Google Play store.
On the tablet, sign in to this Google account:
- username = [email protected]
- password = gritMVP2013
The latest list is in Dropbox\Grit Learning shared files\Contentapps-2nd _grade_PIO_2014-May.xls.
If an app is new to this Google account, you'll need to find it in the Play store (searching using the path from the Excel file is easiest), and install it.
Once the apps have been attached to this Google account (by installing them on another tablet), it's easiest to go to Play store > My Apps > All and install from there.
For now, we use Dropbox for this, so install Dropbox on the tablet and sign in as yourself. ~Do we need a generic Dropbox login for deployed tablets? ~Eventually upload app to Google Play?
Using the Dropbox app, install Grit from Dropbox\Grit Learning shared files\production builds. (EN = English, KH = Khmer).
Run Grit, launch a math app from it, then tap the Home button. You should get a dialog asking which launcher to go back to. Choose Grit, and choose the "Always" option so the dialog doesn't appear next time.
From now on, tapping Home should go to Grit, not the Android desktop.
To get to the Android desktop from Grit, tap X > Exit > "grit".
Launch Grit and try launching each app.
Check the latest app list (see above) to see if any of the apps need to be set up before use. This is usually something like setting up a default player name or setting the difficulty level.
Make it easier for teachers to find Grit by adding it to the home page of the Android desktop. You may want to put all the math apps that Grit uses into a separate folder to avoid clutter.
