Should we work these instructions below -- as these are not exact text to insert, it may be useful to direct a review from EDIFY @nickcummins41 here.

How they hold/position the phone while recording

– as if they are doing a video call, so holding up the phone, facing the screen, with their arm relaxed

– no hand/fingers over the microphone!

– Do not using headphones – in ear or over ear. This introduces more variables - microphones and recording geometries.

– Participants can sit or stand while recording is fine

Where they record

– Do not record on public transport or in outdoor spaces – due to noise

– Turn off tv, music etc

– If participants might feel self-conscious recording, advise them to find a private space in which to record (e.g., their bedroom) – this also minimises the risk of background noise

Speak in your normal voice at your normal pace

– Especially in the reading: avoid performing or story telling

If their phone rings/beeps, or they are interrupted mid-recording, it’s fine to re-record

Notifications

– Important: There will be a notification for the task, but participants don’t have to complete it that instant, it’s ok to come back to it later at a more convenient (or quieter!) time, e.g. if they are travelling, in a meeting, or whatever.
