Research OmniDir P2P Long Range Antennas #190
Comments
Can you explain what you mean by "routing within the network?" I assume you are using the schools wifi and Internet connection to pipe commands to the Rover? If so, do understand that the Rover will need to have an access point as well as the wireless bridge to function. For testing now, you can eliminate the wireless bridge and connect mission control to the access point. We don't use this for competition because your laptops wifi cards don't have that long of a range and not should the onboard WiFi AP (Access point). But it should be long enough range for demonstrations. Make a new issues with the details of getting the wifi only approach working. And use this as research for the 90pMHz long range option. Also feel free to use other frequencies if you can prove that it will behave nicely at long range. Maybe we can find a fancy 2.4GHz wifi AP that can act as bridge between both sides that doesn't need an additional long range wireless bridge. I'm pretty sure 5Ghz wont work for our distances and for occlusions but if you can find some evidence to prove that wrong then we should investigate. |
What I mean by the router is I was using my phone as a hotspot for my computer and RPI to run the web server, serial, and ssh. There was still about a 1-second or less delay when controlling the rover this way so I'd like to eliminate that. I could also try using the school wifi but we had some issues with their wifi before. |
The Wireless driving works decently well with the Pi, however, there is some latency due to using a router within the network. We can fix this by using a P2P network Antenna such as this one.
