Restoring compatibility with upstream

This release restores the functionality fo AYapejian's api-current-state, but does break compatibility with my previous releases, I feel that implementing this consistent with upstream now is more important than keeping compatibility with my previous release.

Sorry for any problems the previous release caused people.
