Weirdly enough, I have the same issue on the realme 8 pro. No matter what value I set the min brightness to (including floats), the screen's pitch black at the lowest one.

Some Xiaomi devices are known to have that behavior because they do DC diming on low brightness.
You can start by finding the cutoff value by reading /sys/class/backlight/xxx/brightness while trying to get the lowest non-black value manually

That's what I did. In GSI it's 4 but in Custom ROMs it's 9. So I increased minimum from 4 to 9.
Still doesn't help.
Are other values conflicting with it?
