CreateSoilFiles

This repository contains source code for programs to create the grid, node, and soil files for MAIZSIM. The grid file defines the 2D finite element grid and the node file which contains the initial values for the nodes when the crop model begins. There are two versions, CreateSoilFiles and CreateSoilFiles_CO2. the former project applies to the version of MAIZSIM now on Github. The latter project is for a new version of Maizsim that does gas transport and will be released soon as a new version of MAIZSIM here.

The system consists of three programs:

  1. CreateSoilFiles.exe - compiled from several C# source files - this program reads the input parameter file an calls the dll to create the grid file template and then fills the template. It also fills the initial values for the nodes and writes to the node file.
  2. the dll is written in FORTAN and is called GRIDGEN
  3. After creating the grid files it calls the C++ program (an exe) calls Rosetta to calculate soil hydraulic properties for the van Genuchten equation. https://www.ars.usda.gov/pacific-west-area/riverside-ca/agricultural-water-efficiency-and-salinity-research-unit/docs/model/rosetta-model/

the input file consists of lines of data that define the soil and grid properties. See the example folder for instructions. The input file ASHD05 works with the new CO2 version (it contains initialization for gas concentrations) and the BEOU file works with the original MAIZSIM here on git

the Excel interface when it creates the files and folders, will create a batch file called grid1.bat. this contains the complete command to run the CreateSoilFiles program to generate the files.
