Implement essential tasks for the project, including creating documentation, setting up automated testing, establishing versioning in _versions.ts, and documenting manual tests. These improvements aim to enhance quality and maintainability.

Acceptance Criteria

  • Comprehensive documentation is created and accessible.
  • Automated testing framework is in place and initial tests are running successfully.
  • Version history is correctly managed in _versions.ts.
  • Manual tests are well-documented and up to date.

this is per PR, not a whole new issue. Keep issues to express new features, bugs and enhancements, not generic development tasks that always ought to happen.

Automated testing, versioning, manual testing documentation seem like time consuming tasks, hence the separate issue.
