Update dv_info.md #855
Update dv_info.md #855
Conversation
Updated documentation for dvcapture in vrecord. Included updated screenshots and more detailed instructions for use. GIFs were made to illustrate playback and capture, but I wasn’t able to add them directly into the markdown like I was with the images.
Thanks! At first glance, it looks like all the images went into a general user-attachments location. It probably is best if those are uploaded to the same location (internal within the repository) as other images used in the docs, since I don't know the longevity of Github's user attachments. Those all are in the 'Resources' directory in the repo. That would solve the problem with any GIFs you want to upload as well. I'll ping you via google to clarify how all to do that! |
adding new images and replacing two.
A brief video showing how to use dvcapture in vrecord.
adding a GIF that shows dvcapture waiting for the timecode during playback/capture
uploaded the wrong (longer version by mistake
Made formatting consistent. Added additional images, videos and GIF. Inserted the correct URLs to documentation

Thanks @libbyhopfauf! I just took a look and have some minor tweaks I'd suggest

To capture DV formats in vrecord (when installed in macOS), you will need to have your DV deck connected directly to your computer via FireWire input. Make sure your deck is in “Local” mode.
**macOS:** To capture DV formats (DV, DVCAM, MiniDV, DVCPRO and Digital8) in vrecord, you will need to have your DV deck connected directly to your computer via FireWire input. Make sure your deck is turned on and in “Remote” mode. Additional settings for your DV device may apply to ensure a successful connection. To view manuals and settings notes for specific decks, players and camcorders, please see the DVRescue Deck Guide. You may also need to adjust your privacy settings and allow each DV device to connect prior to use with vrecord.
|
||
> **_NOTE:_** vrecord uses the DVRescue toolkit to facilitate dvcapture. HDV tapes are not in the current scope of this project and cannot be captured using DVRescue or vrecord. For more information, please see this issue discussing the differences between DV and HDV. |

I think we can leave out the second sentence (link to issue)

Word! I moved the link to the first sentence. Just want to make sure it's super clear and Jerome describes how different the encoding is really well in that issue :) but let me know if you want me to take it out completely.

I prefer original wording for this line (When using the GUI, environment parameters can be adjusted in the Config tab.

9. Typically, vrecord will end the capture once the recording ends. If you entered a duration for the capture in "Settings," vrecord will end the capture when it reaches that duration. To end the capture manually, click the `x` in the upper left hand corner of the playback window or hit the "esc" key. |

Let's change last sentence to To end the capture manually, close the playback window or hit the "esc" key.
(Not all systems vrecord runs on have things in the upper left)

Sadly, unlike the images the video needs to be stored somewhere else and linked to (not viewable without downloading in current form)

### No Audio During Playback
Currently, no audio will play during record mode, but dvrescue will record the audio stream. You will need to monitor the audio directly on the deck.

corrected typo in previously uploaded image
Updated based on feedback from @privatezero
@privatezero awesome! Thank you so much! I made all of the changes based on your suggestions. This included uploading a new image for the one you noted with a typo (but it doesn't appear to have updated yet in the draft). Let me know if you notice anything else I should change! |

@privatezero @dericed do you need me to make any more changes before this PR can be merged? |
@libbyhopfauf, nope! |
Updated documentation for dvcapture in vrecord. Included updated screenshots and more detailed instructions for use.
GIFs were made to illustrate playback and capture, but I wasn’t able to add them directly into the markdown like I was with the images. GIFs are available here for upload/download. Placement is noted in the documentation.
