Provide helpers to make using org-noter
with pdf-tools
easier and more efficient
for the case where you start by opening the book (instead of starting by opening
the org-noter
noter document associated with the book) and then want to start
taking notes.
If you use use-package
package, then something like the following will work.
(use-package pdf-tools-org-noter-helpers
:pin manual
:load-path "/path/to/pdf-tools-org-noter-helpers/directory")
- Say you’ve opened a PDF book using
pdf-view-mode
. - While reading, you decide that you would like to take notes on what you are reading.
- Do
M-x pdf-noter-create-notes-file-for-current-book
. This will a) ask if you want to create a bookmark where you are currently reading in the book, i.e., the location of point/cursor in the currentPDFView
buffer, b) check if the noter document file already exists (if it does it will tell skip step (c) below) and if not, c) then it will create anorg-noter
document located in yourorg-directory
(C-h v org-directory
to see value of this variable) location and having the same name as the book’s PDF file sans file suffix and with “-notes.org” appended. - Once
org-noter
finishes loading your book and notes in its split view, you can then jump to the bookmark you set earlier (viaM-x bookmark-jump
). - From here you can start taking notes as per usual
org-noter
usage.
