Which issue does this PR close?

Rationale for this change

I wondered if the fix in #14956 worked for expressions so I wrote some more tets for it

What changes are included in this PR?

  1. Add a test when the projection that is pushed down includes an expression (not just a column)
  2. Add some more comments

Are these changes tested?

Yes

Are there any user-facing changes?

No
