Why Atlanta Nodejs?

Mission:

First, to provide mutual benefit to the members, which may include skills, solutions, portfolio work, team members, business opportunities, job and lead exchange, .... Personal interests served by open source software and open mentoring and craftsmanship.

Second, to align forces for the development of this industry niche, which extends the mutual benefit to all future members.

##Two sources of inspiration:

The Junto was a club for mutual improvement established in 1727 by Benjamin Franklin in Philadelphia. Also known as the Leather Apron Club, its purpose was to debate questions of morals, politics, and natural philosophy, and to exchange knowledge of business affairs.

Every man owes some of his time to the upbuilding of the profession to which he belongs.
Theodore Roosevelt, often quoted, unsourced.

A Node.js Working Group

  • Focus on individual and team projects. Document parts and methods for further projects.
  • Parts - modules, sample projects, project templates ready to use, API best practice, ...
  • Methods - tools used, tool made, approaches, profiles, hosting, developer practices, team practices, good presentation/demo, configurations, development setup, ...
  • Lead by example

In short, projects first. Then review the results to become more effective.

The conduct of meetings:

Occasional excellent speakers, only on topic.

Usually:
Project news, code review, git logs, modules used, lessons learned.
Project planning, modules needed, lessons to apply, feedback from "project board members".

Cautions:

Beware the input trap. Avoid unlimited cool possibilities, reading posts and code, cataloging resources and references. Instead orient to projects. The group filters by knowing others' needs.

Beware drift and burnout. Drive it for one year and then dissolve. (Someone will re-form it.) This is not a thing in itself, but a temporary cooperation for mutual benefit. By concentrating on it a year and then dissolving, more good will come by freeing the energy for the best use then. Don't burn out, have fun, get something you need.
