Is this a way of getting me to do some work for free?

This is a very simple dummy application created especially for the purpose of technical interviewing. We do not ask you to create any new code or fix any bugs, the interview tasks are structured around comprehension and demonstrating your knowledge of AWS and/or Terraform.

How will the interview work

Our interviews are about comprehension and demonstrating your knowledge. We will ask you to present your findings and we will ask clarifying questions. This will take around 20 minutes. We will then ask further, more generic questions about building and running infrastructure and applications in AWS. You don't need to prepare anything in advance for those questions. The overall interview should last around 1 hour.
