Other people have started developing genealogical software on the web.

None of them are too far advanced, and not all of them have published sources unfortunately. Developing a full software is a huge undertaking, and most of us are mostly doing that to experiment with a few aspects, but we keep using other software to maintain our own data.

I personally like Gramps on the desktop, but I find the data entry tedious with too many popup windows all the time. This is one of the things I would like to modify

  • Genealogy in Web 2.0

  • Beyond

Apparently investigating collaborative technology. Their blog has a lot of pointers to other interesting ideas around the net

  • Timeline

An AJAX widget for displaying timelines dynamically.

  • Family Search Labs

Various ideas for genealogical software, for instance an interactive family tree.

  • FamilyWheel

Genealogical data viewer based on a fanchart (instead of a pedigree tree in general)

  • Evidentia is a source based utility that helps reach conclusion. It is similar in intent to Geneaprove, but does not seem to provide GUI reports.

  • Lineascope also intends to be a genealogy software with strong support for sources and assertions.

  • The Family Pack was apparently another attempt at writting a source-based genealogy software, but did not seem to go far. Worth keeping an eye on, though.
